Law education refers to the study of law and judicial system of any country by pursuing a professional study program of lawyers at different levels e.g. graduate, postgraduate or PhD level. In India legal education is granted as a three years degree course under the act of  Advocates Acts, 1961, that is passed by parliamentary.

Traditionally the degree offered by Law Commission of India is referred as B.L. (Bachelor of Law) or LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws). First Law University in India was set up in Bangalore known as National Law School of India University in 1985, known as NLS.

NLS provides multi-disciplinary qualification in a combined course. National Law school offered its five years integrated course titled as “B.A., LL.B. (Honours)” . Next university that began functioning as a Law Educaion university was NALSAR university of Law, Hyderabad.

Thereafter more Law universities opened in India such as, National Law Institute University of Bhopal in 1997. Following that National Law University, Jodhpur was established in 2001 which offered “B.B.A., LL.B. (Honours)”. Jodhpur was preceded by West Bengal University of Juridical sciences granting “B.Sc., LL.B. (Honours)”

Finally KIIT Law School, Bhubaneswar became the first institute to offer an integrated law course specialization i.e. BA/BBA/B.Sc. LLB (Honours).

However, these specializations have different pre-qualification requirements e.g. students must have a bachelor’s degree to enter a three years professional B.A. LL.B. program and to enter five years integrated Law education candidates of Class XII from a Board of Education in India can apply.
